Harry Potter Artwork in London

Harry Potter Artwork in London
This week I finally got round to visiting the House of Minalima. Minalima is the design studio responsible for all the graphic design, artwork and graphic props in the Harry Potter films as well as the more recent Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film. Their free exhibition of all artwork created for the films is on display at their studio in Greek Street in London. It was due to close on February 4th but great news, it’s staying open with no current end date! Hurrah! I am super thankful it’s not closing as it was on my ‘to visit’ list but I forgot about it in the excitement of Christmas and only remembered during what should have been their closing week.

This year it is 20 years since Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone (or Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone for any American readers) came out. 20 years?! Can you believe it? I can’t! And to celebrate I seem to be having rather a Harry Potter themed year so far.

  1. In January I signed up for Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited free trial and re-read all the Harry Potter books in order. I originally read them so fast (the last one in 3 hours after queuing until 2am to get it from Waterstones the day it came out) that by the time the movies came out I forgot bits so it was lovely to re-read them all back to back and appreciate the true ingenuity of the story arcs and lines.
  2. At the start of the month, I went to the Platform 9 3/4 shop in Kings Cross and bought a time turner necklace, because I am basically a Hufflepuff version of Hermione.
  3. This week I found myself at a pub quiz in Greenwich which has a Harry Potter themed cocktail – with popping candy!! I’ve also been re-watching all the movies and on Friday finally went to the House of Minalima. Now I just have to find something for next month!
If you are reading all this and have never read any of the books or maybe never seen the movies, the exhibition is still worth going to if you are a graphic designer, a fan of graphic props or just curious to see what kinda of graphic design pieces they had to produce for the films. It is a wonderfully small crooked building housing four floors of graphic-y goodness including a shop where you can buy all the prints as well as notebooks, badges, postcards, etc.

This is just a small selection of the beautiful artwork on display:

Important stuff:

House of Minalima is located at 26 Greek Street, Soho, London, W1D 5DE. Opening hours remain 12-7pm every day but weekends can be very busy so you may have to queue or may be allotted a timed entry. I deliberately went on a week day to avoid crowds but appreciate that not everyone can do that. Having said that, recommended visiting days are Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Which is your favourite? I love the Marauder’s Map and Ron’s Howler letter.

Why not pin this for later?

Love all things Harry Potter? Why not check out the Harry Potter Artwork on display in House of Minalima in London? They are the graphic design house behind all the Harry Potter artwork in the movies.
