This week, on April 12th 2017 was the official date of the Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary! To a Disney fan like me that’s exciting! I may have watched the entire celebration ceremony and vowed to visit this year to experience the celebrations… No one does celebrations better than Disney. I missed the Diamond 60th Anniversary celebrations in Disneyland Park (Anaheim, CA) last year by three weeks but the up side was I got to experience the wonder of Disney at Halloween and it was absolutely amazing. Whether it’s an anniversary or an event such as Christmas, the Disney Parks put up gorgeous themed decorations and usually create new things especially for it – new Parades, different fireworks, shows and sometimes they even adapt existing rides like Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland Park (10 out of 10 would recommend!).
Disneyland Paris may be viewed as a smaller version of the other Disney Parks around the world, however, it is still worth a visit – if only because it’s a far closer place to go for your Disney magic fix if you are based in Europe. Here’s a few reasons why you should visit this year for the 25th Anniversary:

Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary parade.
There is a new parade. WITH A FIRE BREATHING DRAGON. Yep. That has to be in capitals because seriously, a dragon! That breathes fire! I shouldn’t even have to write anything else on this list, you should be booking your tickets already. Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary + a fire breathing dragon = sold! Parades are one of my favourite things and give you a chance to see all the characters you love that you may not have met in the Park on these hugely elaborate floats. The Disneyland Paris website quotes the new parade as including a fire-breathing dragon, Peter Pan, Toy Story characters, a Lion King and Jungle Book collaboration, Disney Princesses, Frozen characters and of course, Mickey Mouse.
My absolute favourite float is the Peter Pan one – I love all things Peter Pan and the float has a swinging pirate ship with Peter and the Lost Boys on it as well as Skull Rock with Hook and Smee at the front of the float. Absolutely perfect.
Tip: Parades run most days but make sure you check the website beforehand as they might not run in adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. They may also not run parades if they have something else instead. I missed Disney fireworks and the Paint the Night parade in Disneyland Park in California because the days I went clashed with Mickey’s Halloween Party so they had special fireworks, which you needed a ticket for the Halloween Party and they had a special parade for that too, which meant they weren’t running some of their ‘normal’ parades. Check, rather than be disappointed.
There is a brand new Illuminations show.
Here’s another thing Disney are awesome at – shows. Light shows, fireworks shows, water shows – they’ve nailed it. And this one pretty much has it all. Their brand new night time spectacular (replacing Disney Dreams) sees projections onto the Sleeping Beauty Castle along with music, fireworks, flames, lazers and water, all with Mickey as your host!
I really loved Illuminations but the first time I saw it, the Park was rammed and I was halfway down Main Street and struggling to see over all the tall people in front of me. On busy Park days I would advise finding a spot and staying in it for at least an hour before Illuminations start. If you are further back you’ll still enjoy the show but you might miss some of the projections on the bottom of the castle and the water fountains at the base.
If you have an Infinity Annual Pass, you can reserve a spot for the Illuminations show right in front of the castle for prime viewing. I would definitely advise doing this if you can but still get there early if the Park is particularly busy. To reserve you can either call the Infinity phone line directly or pop along to City Hall when you are in Disneyland Park.
Space Mountain is changing…
From the 7th May, Disneyland Paris have a treat for all you Star Wars fans, Space Mountain will become Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. If I’m honest, I’m not a Star Wars fan and I love Space Mountain, however, a change isn’t always a bad thing. If you’ve never ridden Space Mountain in Disneyland Paris, be aware it’s fast and goes upside down.
And yet another thing for Star Wars fans, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.
You can find this updated ride in Discoveryland, board a Starspeeder 1000 on a 3D adventure journey with over 70 different missions hurtling you through time and space. Even I can appreciate how amazing this is since every ride is potentially different with a new mission each time! Plus you can ask the Cast Member to ride it in English and if they can, they will sort it for you.
I love Disney Princesses, if you love them too then check out the new Starlit Princess Waltz. Princesses such as Belle, Tiana and Aurora wearing their gorgeous ball gowns hit the stage in Fantasyland for an enchanting waltz against a backdrop of the infamous castle. This is pretty magical to watch if you’ve ever dreamed of being a Disney Princess, plus the song is super catchy. I love this show and have seen it during the day time and also when it was dark in the evening and it was even more magical then.
Mickey and the Magician
This is the new show running in Walt Disney Studios Park. The show follows Mickey’s quest to become a magician and features characters such as Genie, Belle,Beast, Elsa and the Fairy Godmother. I love watching Disney shows on stage and am gutted I missed out on Mickey and the Magical Map whilst in Disneyland Park, CA so am so happy I have been able to see this show.
I would advise you to add this show to your itinerary now! It is absolutely amazing and not to be missed. Check it’s running when you go it was due to end then they extended it and it has recently been on hiatus but if it’s showing, definitely go – you won’t be disappointed, I promise. Get there early as seats are a free for all though it’s a small theater so even if you’re near the back you will still see perfectly well.
New food, existing food changed into the shape of a star. Basically an excuse to eat it all. (Unless you’re vegan, then the French don’t do that so well unfortunately.) Mickey shaped snacks are always a good reason to go to the Parks.
Characters in Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary costumes
Everyone loves meeting characters but sometimes your photos can get a bit repetitive if you only meet them in the same place. Some of the characters in Disneyland Paris have 25th Anniversary costumes, gorgeous silver and blue themed guaranteed to brighten up your photo op.
Be aware that not all characters have special 25th Anniversary costumes but you can usually find the ones that do on Main Street.
Mickey Presents: Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris
Another show hitting the Fantasyland stage is this special anniversary show. Join Mickey, Chip & Dale, Woody, Jessie, Goofy, Max and a whole host of characters celebrate the 25th Anniversary live on stage complete with fountains. Because, why not?
I absolutely adore this show. It’s one of the best shows on the castle stage and your best bet at seeing the most characters in a short amount of time. The show goes through all the lands in the Park and has the respective characters dancing on stage and in front for each. Well worth adding to your Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary itinerary but don’t blame me if the main song gets stuck in your head…!
Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary Merchandise
Imagine all the gorgeous things in the Disney shops emblazoned with the 25th Anniversary on it, exclusive for the celebrations!! There is loads of Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary merch so you can shop to your heart’s content, just make sure there is room in your bag to take it all back home!
And finally, escapism.
Let’s be honest, the real world rather sucks at the moment. Why not walk through the gates and leave all your worries at the door and check into a world of escapism, of magic and imagination? One where elephants fly, Neverland exists and you can help Buzz Lightyear battle Zurg and his robot army. Hakuna matata as they say.
So there you have it, 11 reasons you should take a visit to experience the Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary. If you’ve been debating going or if you’re a Disney geek or want to experience it for the first time, I urge you to go for the 25th Anniversary celebrations; they are running until September 2018 so there’s no excuse!
Why not pin this for later?
